Powering the next generation.
Case studies
SunTechnics has worked with a broad range of educational institutions to bring their renewable energy goals to fruition. Here’s just a sample of the solar energy systems we’ve helped provide.
Evergreen School District — With the support of SunTechnics, two schools in this Cottonwood, California district have successfully started producing solar power—up to 159 kW during peak output. It is anticipated that 90 percent of the elementary school’s electrical needs will be covered by their 128 kW system; and, the middle school’s 41 kW system will meet 30 percent of their needs, with more scheduled to be added. For this grid-connected project, SunTechnics performed an analysis of the PV system, evaluated the buildings’ energy efficiency and retrofitted lighting fixtures. The school district was able to take advantage of three rebate programs totaling and $626,000 enabling a total payback in about ten years.
University of Calgary — Conergy provided a 43.4 kW PV system installed at the university’s new Child Development Center which was built to the Canadian Green Building Council’s Platinum Standard. On this building the solar panels served a dual purpose as energy generators and sun shades over windows. By integrating the panels into the building’s structure, the university was able to save on material costs, improve building aesthetics, and benefit from passive solar cooling. It received the Canadian solar industry association’s project of the year award for 2007. And, it is currently the largest solar PV installation in Western Canada.
